Shirley M. Leonard RUTLAND — Shirley Marie Leonard, 93, of Rutland passed away Thursday September 28, 2023 at The Meadows at East Mountain. She was born in Rutland June 2, 1930 the daughter of George and Mary Rose (Russo) Seager. On July 4, 1950 she was married to Elwin Leonard. Shirley was one of the original meter maids from 1968 to 1988. She received a “saving-a-life" award on September 16, 1979 for performing CPR and saving the life of Mrs. Towne when on duty on July 6, 1978 in downtown Rutland. Shirley also worked for Rutland County Sheriff’s Dept., transporting offenders and assisting juries during trials. She was a member of the American Legion and the Moose Club. Shirley was a take charge person and was dedicated to helping others. She always wanted to learn something new. Surviving are her children, Mary Jean Dumas (Roger), Janet Leonard, Cathy Leonard and David Leonard (Lynn). Her grandchildren, Kevin, Stephanie, Stephen, Jackie, Laura, Aimee and Elizabeth, and nine great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her husband, parents and by a brother, Robert Seager. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday October 3, 2023 from 9:30 to 10:30 at Clifford Funeral Home, followed by Funeral services at 11:00pm at Christ the King Church in Rutland. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Pittsford. A reception will follow.
