Sibyl Valente

Sibyl Chase Valente, age 89, of Rutland, Vermont passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026. Sibyl (Sib) was born in Rochester, Vermont on April 13, 1936, to the late Warren Emerson Chase and Catherine Fairbanks Chase. She grew up in Rutland, Vermont and graduated from Rutland High School in 1954. While in high school Sibyl participated in the Girl’s Athletic Association, basketball, volleyball, swimming, All-State Chorus, All-State Band (playing cornet) and All- New England Chorus.

Sibyl was predeceased by her husband, Francis (Frank) Valente of Rutland, Vermont. Together, they raised three children: Debra Kikuchi, Peter Valente and Michael Valente. Sibyl was a devoted mother who always made time to be with her children. Sibyl’s early career began as a teller at Marble Bank in Rutland. She was later employed by Rutland Mental Health’s CAP program where she was known for her dedication and kindness to staff and clientele.

Beyond her work, her true passions were her cats, arts & crafts of all kinds, gardening, swimming, skating, reading and volunteering. She will be most remembered for her calm demeanor, kind heart, and love for her children.

Sibyl is survived by her children; Debra Kikuchi, Peter Valente and Michael Valente; sister Miriam (Mimi) Stringham, as well as 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Captain Malcolm W. Chase and Douglas W. Chase.

There will be a private burial and family ceremony held at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Rochester, Vermont at a yet-to-be determined date.
