Theodore “Teddy” Mormile, passed away on March 24, 2024.
Teddy, as he was affectionately known, was the youngest of four children born to Andre and Jeannie Mormile in Rutland, Vermont on July 14, 1961.
Teddy graduated from Mount St. Joseph in 1979 and then began his career in Staten Island as a mason, working with his father. He possessed a remarkable talent for masonry and refinishing furniture. After leaving Staten Island, Teddy went on to become a certified truck driver. He hauled commodities such as rock, groceries, metal, and drove for Guy Wilson. He also worked for Rutland Plywood, Elnicki Earth/Waste, Casella and other Rutland businesses throughout his life. After finishing his truck driving career, Teddy helped Melinda with her cleaning business so he could be closer to home to take care of his aging mother who he loved dearly.
Teddy and Melinda enjoyed many years at the family camp on Lake Bomoseen where they went kayaking, relaxed, and spent time with friends and family. Teddy helped grow an impressive home garden filled with tomatoes, his favorite. One of his favorite things to do on a leisurely Sunday afternoon was make a fresh tomato sauce. He loved the outdoors and watching animals, especially the deer, bear, and birds. In recent years he loved spending time at Sunny Slope Farm, taking in the views, watching the horses and eating tasty food. Teddy enjoyed attending church on Sundays at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Rutland, finding solace and community in his faith.
Teddy cherished spending time with friends and family. He appreciated the quiet moments and especially enjoyed seeing his four beautiful grandchildren. Teddy found joy in the simple pleasures of life, usually with Melinda and their dog, Axel Lennart.
His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him. He had the biggest, brightest, most beautiful smile that would make everyone who encountered him feel his warm personality. His funny jokes and quick witted responses in conversation would make one think before replying. He had many “Ted-isms” such as, “You can’t hurry up the road” and “easy, easy”.
Teddy had an unknown brain aneurysm rupture during the snowstorm on March 23. He received compassionate care from the staff at Rutland Regional and the neurological ICU team at Dartmouth Medical Center. We are forever grateful for their care. He was surrounded by his loving family when he passed.
Surviving is his partner of almost 20 years, Melinda Williams and her daughter Tara Williams of Rutland; a daughter, Amanda Chung (Jason Chung), two granddaughters, Elle and Josie of South Burlington; a son, Seth Momile (Casey McClure), grandson, Seth, and granddaughter, Quinnlee of Rutland; a brother, Drs. Andre Mormile (Leslie Mormile), nephew Garret, step-nieces Stephanie, Katie, and Rachel of Alamogordo, NM; a sister, Gina Alex (Charles Alex), and his three nephews Matthew Car, Benjamin Johnson, and Samuel Johnson of Cooperstown, NY; and his half siblings, John, Nicky and Maria of Staten Island, NY and their families.
Teddy was predeceased by his mother, Jeannie (Mormile) Chapin; step-father Eddie Chapin; father, Andre Mormile; half-brother, Victor Mormile; and brother Salvatore Mormile.
A memorial service to celebrate Teddy’s life will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Rutland on June 15, 2024 at 9:30am.
Though Teddy may no longer be with us in body, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he loved and the lives he touched. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory and smile be a source of comfort and strength to all who mourn his passing.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clifford Funeral Home.
