Thomas Norton DePoy, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 18th, 2024 at Rutland Regional Medical Center following a courageous battle with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma.

Born on February 3rd, 1951, in Rochester, NY, he was the oldest son of the late Donald & Martha (Norton) DePoy.  Tom was a proud graduate of Christ the King School and Mount Saint Joseph Academy class of 1969.  Upon graduation, he attended Mount Saint Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, MD before transferring to Castleton State College where he received his bachelor’s degree.

Beginning with social work at Eden Park in Rutland, managing long-term care facilities and rehabilitation centers quickly became a calling for Tom.  Over the span of 40+ years, Tom held various roles including Vice President of Operations with Hillhaven, Genesis and Revera Healthcare.  Tom was a respected mentor to new administrators in his chosen field, many of whom continued to draw on his expertise a number of years later.  Over the years, Tom was a staunch advocate for improving the access and quality of long-term care in the state of Vermont.  He was proud to serve as President of both the Vermont Healthcare Association and Vermont Epilepsy Association.  Tom’s love of people was evident in the care and compassion he shared with his employees, colleagues and patients.  Throughout his illustrious career, his door was always open.

On April 18th, 1980, Tom married Nancy (Gottlieb) DePoy and for the next 43yrs they enjoyed life to the fullest.  Outside of work Tom could often be found at one of his children’s sporting events, dance recitals, catching some sun by his pool, listening to great music, gardening or playing golf or basketball.  A lifelong athlete, Tom was a star on the MSJ basketball team and was such an effective scorer he earned himself the nickname “Deucer”.  He was an avid fan of the New York Football Giants, Boston Celtics and the Red Sox.  Tom loved to travel and his favorite spots usually doubled as places his children and grandchildren lived including San Diego.  He loved his trip to Ireland with his Mother and brother, Chris, taking in the sites including a few pubs.  Tom and Nancy also had the trip of a lifetime to Paris in 2015 creating memories that will last forever.

In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by his siblings, Mary Kay Harris, Peter DePoy, John Michael DePoy, Martha Pratico and Chris DePoy; his mother-in-law, Nancy Gottlieb, and his father-in-law, Charles Gottlieb Jr.

Tom will be dearly missed by his wife of almost 44 years, Nancy.  He is survived by his children Thomas Shawn DePoy (Donna), Kelly DePoy Parsons (Jamie), Jennifer DePoy and Ryan DePoy (Bridget) and his 8 grandchildren Jenna, Noah, Elle, Christian, Kaylee, Virginia, Juliet and Tommy who will forever miss their Papa Tom.  In addition, he was loved by numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members and many treasured friends.

Tom was strong, funny, generous, caring and hardworking and loved his family above all else.  He will be missed every single day by his family and those who were lucky enough to have him in their lives.

Friends and Family may call on Thursday January 25th from 3-6pm at Clifford Funeral Home.  A Catholic Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Friday January 26th at 11am.
