Thomas "Tucker" Ferguson

RUTLAND – Thomas Edward Ferguson, 70, of Rutland, peacefully passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Thomas was born on December 16, 1955, in Rutland, Vermont, to William Sr. and Lillian (Warren) Ferguson. A lifelong Rutland resident, he attended Rutland High School and built a life there, rooted in hard work, family, and friendship.

Known to most as "Tucker," Thomas was a hardworking man with a quiet strength, a generous heart, and a willingness to help anyone in need. He began working at Burke's Garage at just 14 years old and remained there until his retirement—a testament to his loyalty and remarkable work ethic.

He had a passion for tinkering and could often be found repairing lawn mowers, weed eaters, and just about anything with an engine. He loved hunting and was an enthusiastic yard-sale treasure hunter. From a young age, Thomas had a special love for his AMC Rebel "The Machine" and his Jeeps. He enjoyed taking vehicles apart, putting them back together, and spent countless hours jeeping through the backwoods with family and friends.

Then he met the love of his life, Debra, and together they built the beautiful family that became the center of his world. Thomas devoted his life to his wife and daughters, and eventually grandchildren- always putting his family first. He and Debra shared 53 wonderful years of marriage, filled with love, laughter, and unwavering commitment. His kindness, generosity, and ever-present smile left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Thomas was predeceased by his parents, William Sr. and Lillian Ferguson; his brothers, William Jr. (Billy), Richard Ferguson, and Jim Willis; his sisters, Patricia and Dorothy; his good friend, Gary Genress; brother-in-law, Johnny Boy; and his grandson Zachary Cole

He is survived by his beloved wife, Debra, of Rutland; his four daughters, Michelle (Erik) Pearsons of Pittsford, Kim Ferguson of Proctor, Tracey (Mike) Cole of Castleton, and Ashley Ferguson of Proctor; his mother-in-law, Elaine Dydo of West Rutland; his cherished grandchildren, Riley Coombs (Kegan) and Zoey Cole of Castleton, and Landon, Carter, Wyatt, and Ashlynn Travis of Proctor; sister Barbara (Robert) Oney, of Rutland. He also leaves behind his dear friends Joey and Rose of Rutland, and a very special longtime neighbor and friend, Laura Aquistapace and many nieces and nephews as well.

While those who loved Thomas mourn his passing, they find comfort in knowing he was welcomed into Heaven by his beloved grandson, Zachary Cole. He missed Zachary deeply through the years, and now they are reunited, together forever in peace.

Thomas will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his quiet strength, his generous spirit, and the genuine kindness he showed to everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the family he loved so deeply.

Calling hours for Thomas will be held Monday, August 10 at Clifford’s Funeral Home in Rutland from 5 to 7 p.m.
