W. Barrie Byrne

RUTLAND TOWN - W. Barrie Byrne, 87, died Jan. 26, 2017, at his home.
He was born Oct. 3, 1929, in Proctor, VT, to Leonard and Lucille (Duprey) Byrne.
Barrie was a 1948 graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy. He received a bachelor's degree from Seton Hall University and a master's degree from Saint Michael's College.
He was a teacher at Bennington High School and later, taught at Rutland High School for 26 years.
Barrie was a junior varsity basketball coach at Rutland High School for many years.
He was a U.S. Air Force Korean War veteran.
Surviving are a brother, John R. Jack Byrne, of Lake George, NY; a brother-in-law, Theodore Salerni, of Rutland; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Leamy and her husband, James, of Bomoseen; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Salerni) Byrne, in November 2006.
There are no calling hours.
A service will be held at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery.
