Walter E. Piontek Sr.

Walter E. Piontek Sr., 89, died Aug. 29, 2016 at The Pines at Rutland.

He was born in Castleton, April 27, 1927, son of Lawrence and Caroline (Krolek) Piontek.

Walter was a 1945 graduate of West Rutland High School.

He was a foreman at Vermont Marble Co. for many years.

Walter was a member of St. Bridget’s Church.

Walt enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He especially enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren play sports.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mary (Buckey) Piontek of West Rutland; 3 sons, Walter Piontek Jr. and wife Rosie of Center Rutland, Tony Piontek and partner Lori Lyons of West Rutland and Joseph Piontek and wife Joanne of Proctor; a brother, Stanley Piontek of Dorset; 5 grandchildren, Seth, Justin, Kyle, Kendra, Keith and one great grandson, Sam.

He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Joseph Piontek, George Piontek and John Piontek; 3 sisters, Anna Jaginski, Louise Waterhouse and Stella Grabowski.

A funeral mass will be held at 1 pm Thursday Sept. 1, 2016 in St. Bridget’s Church.

Burial will follow in St. Bridget’s Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home in West Rutland on Thursday from 11am to 12:30 pm.
