Wilbur W. DuBray, 68, of Rutland Town, lost his hard-fought battle with cancer Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his family. All during this battle, he never lost his sense of humor.
He was born in Rutland Jan. 5, 1949, the son of Estelon and Elsie (Goodrich) DuBray.
Wilbur was a 1967 graduate of Rutland High School. He served the United States in the Marine Corps as a Corporal from 1968-1969 in the Vietnam War.
Oct. 10, 1970, he married Jeannie (Heath) DuBray at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Rutland.
Wilbur was a Rutland City firefighter for 31 years, retiring in 2000, and owned Wilbur DuBray Power Equipment. Post-retirement, he drove bus for Marble Valley Regional Transit, he was also a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, National Association of Firefighters, Vietnam Veterans Association, Italian Aid Society, Red Knights motorcycle club, the American Legion, and a life member of the Marine Corps League.
Outside of his various commitments to the community, Wilbur enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf (notably a hole-in-one July 2016 at Proctor-Pittsford Country Club) and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle with his closest friend, Ernie Cioffi.
Wilbur is survived by his wife, Jeannie; son Jason and granddaughter Olivia, of Raleigh, NC; daughter Carrie of Orlando, FL; and two sisters, Penny Keefe, of Rutland, and, Inah Piper, of Jupiter, FL. He was preceded in death by sister Mary Schultz and brother George.
Funeral services will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Rutland Saturday, Feb. 4, at 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Wilbur's name to Rutland Open Door Mission; The Red Knights (Vermont 3, P.O. Box 1403, Station A, Rutland, VT 05701-1403); or your charity of choice .
