William “Bill” Bennett, born August 23, 1950, in Concord, New Hampshire, to parents Donald Bennett and Janet Brower, passed away on January 10, 2026, at the age of 75.
Bill graduated from Rutland High School in 1969.
Bill married the love of his life, Mary, on June 3, 1972, and together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, adventure, and cherished memories. Their partnership was the center of his world, and he took immense pride in the family they created.
Bill worked for many years as a machinist at GE, where he was known for his skill, precision, and strong work ethic. In the 1990s, he also worked part‑time at the Rutland Regional Airport, a role that allowed him to be closer to one of his greatest passions — airplanes. His other lifelong passions were hang gliding and skiing. In the 1980s and 90s, he shared his love for the slopes as a ski instructor at Killington, inspiring countless skiers with his skill, patience, and enthusiasm. Whether teaching a beginner to make their first turns or carving down the mountain himself, Bill radiated joy in the outdoors.
Bill was predeceased by his father, Donald Bennett (1989); his father‑in‑law, Leon Dion (1996); his mother‑in‑law, Marguerite Dion (2009); and his brother‑in‑law, Bob Dion (2017).
He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Mary; his children Stacey (John), Kelley, and Billy; and his beloved grandchildren Ryan, Allie, and Ethan, who brought him endless joy. Bill also leaves behind his mother, Janet Bennett of Berlin, VT; four sisters and one brother, along with their spouses; and many nieces and nephews who will remember his warmth, humor, and steady presence.
Bill will be remembered for his warm heart, his adventurous spirit, and his unwavering dedication to his family. His legacy lives on in the love he gave and the joy he brought to those around him.
